Steele Ranch

Generations of Excellence in Cattle Breeding

Our History

Offering Hormone-Free, High-Quality, Grass-Finished Cattle

Edgar Steele Senior progressively purchased the land in Young County, Texas now comprising Steele Ranch from 1929 to 1935.  Initially the Ranch focused on raising and training horses, bringing in registered Herefords in 1947.

Following service in World War II, graduation from Texas A&M, and marrying Rosie McCoy Steele, Ed Steele Junior would return to Steele Ranch in 1949.  He moved the central portion of the current ranch house into place in 1951, and the family that now included Dan and Mark Steele would move in by 1963.

During that time, Steele Ranch also began raising Angora goats alongside cattle, with a population peaking near 2500.

Rosie and Mark ran Steele Ranch from 1971 to 1975.  The goat population was reduced and cattle again became the primary focus.  Dan would return in 1975, residing on and running Steele Ranch until 1984, before departing in 1987.

During that time, Dr. Mark Steele had graduated from Texas A&M and Veterinary School, along with spending several years in general practice.  By 1984, he began managing the Ranch, hiring Otilio Gonzalez to live on and run commercial cattle there.

Around 1995, Steele Embryo Service began a bovine donor management operation aboard Steele Ranch, lasting until 2017.  Emu operations and a trophy Whitetail deer breeding also had brief histories aboard the Ranch.

By 2018, Dan returned to build a house at Steele Ranch, and the land and operational structure were divided.  Following graduation from Texas A&M, service in the Marine Corps, and time in the FBI, Joel Steele would return to Steele Ranch to establish Steele Precision Shooting LLC in 2022.  Joel continues the cattle and oil lease operations alongside Dr. Mark.

In 2024, Dr. Mark and Joel began the pivot of the cattle operation.  Steele Ranch currently raises Texas born, high quality, no-hormone, no-antibiotic, grain fed, grass finished beef for the commercial market.
